Duluth Trip Day Three

The last day, we went to Tettegouche State Park as our last stop. The weather was not clear. The view is the best compared to what we saw the past two days.
三天下來其實並沒有跑很多地方，就是悠閒的走了幾個步道，欣賞不同角度的蘇必略湖。世界最大溫度也最低的淡水湖，Duluth位於最西邊，以鐵礦與工業興起，或許也因為礦產的緣故使得湖水並不是湛藍般的清澈，，還一度以為是工業污染的結果。說實話也沒有很壯麗的建築或很有特色的名產，就是一個很閒適的度假感覺，享受自然的風光。下次再來可以準備露營，健行，或是泛舟等等。時間多的話甚至可以繞著蘇必略湖玩一圈，那時候就真的需要一輛RV了。

After visiting that state park, we headed home. And had our last lunch in Betty's Pies. It seems that this is the biggest restaurant in this area.


The pie is very good, but need a lot of exercise to reduce the weight.

Duluth Trip Day Two - North Shore

The second day, we headed toward North Shore. The first stop was Two Harbors. 3M was started from this small fishing town. We did not enter that museum, and just took some photo outside.

The oldest lighthouse of Minnesota. $2 admission fee to get in, so we just saw it outside.

Afterward, we drove to Gooseberry State Park. There are three falls and we can see Gooseberry river flows into the Lake Superior.

Lake Superior. It was so chilly. Some people did stone picking along the beach. It seems that people can get Agate here.

We did not reserve hotel today. So we had to rely on our luck. Finally, we found a Motel. Compared with other cabins, it cost $50 one night.

Duluth Trip Day One

Duluth is located at northern part of Minnesota, around 150 miles away from the Twin Cities. It is a industry spot by the Lake Superior. We spent one day in Duluth and drived to the North Shore Area on the following two days.

趁著暑假工作之前的長週末，和Jan一行三人往北到著名的避暑勝地兼大港口-Duluth.據說所有明尼蘇達人沒事的時候都會往北跑，沿著35號高速公路就可以到達。一路上看到一堆人開著卡車後面拖著船或是ATV甚至是房子的。這邊的休閒活動其實很簡單很悠閒，開著船在湖上漂一整天釣魚，或是開著越野車在林間跑來跑去，沿著步道健行散步或慢跑。假期過後再回到工作上。
早上快十點出發，十二點多到。先去了遊客中心拿了資料後，就往湖邊的Canal Park前進。這邊有個大小船隻的進出口，看著大船入港是建議的必看行程之一。由此可知這邊的娛樂活動有多缺乏，或是有多悠閒了！

The bridge was rised so that the boat can enter. 我們中午看到這艘船進港，結果晚上十點多的時候，竟然相當有緣地看到他滿載的要回加拿大了。


港口就少不了有海鷗啦。

After having lunch and walking around the Canal Park, we decided to go to the Skyline Parkway
to enjoy the view and find some trails.
這條路是沿著湖邊的山坡，所以我們可以一覽世界最大淡水湖的景色。好像季節對的時候，這邊還會有賞鷹的活動。

We walked into a trail and I found a road to the river. But I fell into a river when I tried to touch the water.

Around 5 pm, we headed to our hotel in WI. Duluth and Superior are joint cities. However, everything looked different in WI. We rested for a while, then went to Enger Park to have our last view.

Internship of Valspar

Today, after 3 hours interview, Ms Chien got a call to inform her got the job from Valspar. Finally she finishes the 3 months struggle and Valspar is close to Carlson and our new apartment. So it's a perfect opportunity. However, might have more interviews to do this week. But maybe this is the one.

Well, thanks for everyone's regard. I finally got an offer from Petters Group this morning. It's a little far from downtown and the job is about supply chain management. 開始用中文寫好了，目前還在等其他幾間的回應，所以是把這個當成候補。希望運氣開始變好，可以來個三選一。

For international students, after having an offer, we have to go to ISSS to get a CPT form. The school advisor will fill out the form, afterward, handing that form back to ISSS again so that they can proceed our working visa. Only after we have a new working visa, we can work at a company. The working hour limitation is 40 hours per week during summer and the due day is September 2nd this year. If we have a part time job later, we have to apply a new working visa, and during school semester, the working hour is below 20 hours per week.

Moving prework

Howard and Angela will leave MN recently. We bought some furniture from them and also thanks for Varisa's generosity offering us her living room for storage. We realized one thing -- don't buy too much stuff! When you plan to leave, it's really a hard work to pack or to decide what should keep and what should throw away.
On the other hand, it also makes sense that a furnished apartment is more expensive than an unfurnished one. It saves you lots of trouble moving and assemblying what you bought. Now, we are going to prepack our stuff so that we would have a nice moving at the beginning of June.
Good luck for us and for people who have new life.

Carlson Cup

In order to celebrate the graduation of Class 2006, we held a Carlson Cup soccer game. The reason that I don't like soccer game is it takes too long to score. After almost 45 minutes, the first year team scored first by Won. However, the second year took it back right away in 5 minutes. I hoped maybe the score would go up after everybody finally found way to kick the ball into the gate. However, it tied to the end. Even in OT, the score tied too. Finally, we used PK to determine the winner. Class 2007 beat Class 2006 by 1, 5:4. Sorry seniors.

Zipcar

This week I used the Zipcar service twice. One was to drive Yvonne to St. Louis Park for an interview. (FCstone...don't tell anyone.) The other time was to show her father around Twin Cities this weekend.
Now in Twin Cities, there are only six cars available. It is charged by the hour, $8, or $60 for a whole day, including fuel and insurance. You are able to submit the reservation right before the trip or few days earlier. For people who lives near ramps where those cars parked. It is very convenient. It could save an upfront payment for a car, and moreover, insurance, parking lot fee, and fuel. If you are an UofM student, you can save the $30 membership fee.
